73rd Deep Sea Rodeo Cancelled
The Southwest Louisiana
Fishing Club has canceled the 73rd Deep Sea
Fishing Rodeo scheduled for the July 4th
weekend. The Rodeo will not be held this year due to
the BP oil spill which has resulted in the closing of
much of the fishing areas by the National Marine
Fisheries & La. Wildlife & Fisheries.
The closed areas are
changing from day to day as large amounts of oil move
inland. The expenses of the having the Rodeo and the
uncertainty of being able to fish would place an undue
financial burden on the SWLA Fishing Club and our
tournament anglers.
We apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause for those people who have
supported our rodeo or participated in our rodeo over
the years. As much as we did not want to cancel this
event, we felt it was a necessary precaution for the
safety of our anglers and the survival of our club. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to the people whose
livelihoods are directly impacted by this catastrophe.
